Monday Morning Musings - Post Thanksgiving Style

It's amazing what four nearly uninterrupted days of peace and quiet can do for the psyche. That's one of the things that I love about Thanksgiving. For the most part, business across the country grinds to a blissful halt from Wednesday to Sunday. As a result, my e-mail box saw very little activity other than dozens of offers to "make my stick bigger/satisfy my woman" (do they know something I don't?) I did try and keep up with Twitter but even that was a little slower than usual.

Launched!

It's been four months in the coming but last Friday, we finally launched our new company, Mzinga. Truth be told, it was actually a "re-launch" given the fact that we combined two companies -- Shared Insights and Knowledge Planet -- and added some new management. The launch venue was TechCrunch Meetup here in Boston at The Estate (formerly The Big Easy, formerly The AlleyCat, formerly Avenue A.)
The event itself was good -- more of a party than anything else -- because it served as a f ...

Okay, so I'm trying a little experiment here. I participate in a number of social media activities including Twitter, this blog, Facebook and the like. So when it came time to launching our new company, I thought what better way to kick things off then to run a little scavenger hunt to generate excitement.
Here's the deal. The first person that can find the following seven things about me and my company and post them in the comments below (or on FB on my wall) wins a FREE ticket to this Friday' ...

From ForumOne's Marketing and Online Communities event.
Last up in the day was a panel with three CEO's, Barry Libert (our CEO), Peter Friedman of Liveworld and Charlie Tarzian of CoActive Group. The session is being moderated by Tim Tanners of David X Manners Co. After brief intros, we jumped into questions: Any brands that are doing a particularly good job using community to market?
Charlie - AT&T's blue room does a nice job.
Peter - eBay (a Liveworld client) has demo ...

The Problem with Being at a Conference (in a good way)

Okay, so I was live blogging ForumOne's Marketing and Online Community Forum. Then work happened. I had to jump out of the sessions to meet with the producers of next year's Community 2.0 Conference. That was actually a cool distraction. Helping to plan one of next year's biggest community events is an exciting task. But I was missing the conference. Ugh.
That meeting wrapped up and by that time it was lunch. Lunch was cool. I sat with Bill Johnston (the producer of this conference), Michael Le ...

9:10 AM Sitting in a very cool, movie theater-style room at the ForumOne Marketing & Online Communities Event. Bill Johnston of ForumOne is providing opening remarks. As part of the kick off, Bill asks everyone to introduce themselves. It's brief but helpful because it gives us all a good sense of who's in the room.
As we go around the room, we realize that there is a guy here from the United Nations along with an slew of other well-known brands like Micrsoft, Audodesk, Hurst, Yahoo, AOL, F ...

I'm part of the PR/Marketing team that's helping get the word out about the We Are Smarter project. As a We Are Smarter book. Go here to read the post. result, I get a chance to answer a lot of the questions that come in from the press (mainstream and "blog-stream") about the site. A couple of weeks ago, we got asked to submit a post to a cool site called http://openinnovators.net about the project. I took a crack at the back story behind the We Are Smarter book. Go here to read the po ...
