It's been a long road to create a legal framework for this project that is open enough to promote participation, but still allows our publisher to sell the book and allows Shared Insights, who has spent significant resources developing the community platform, to recoup its investment.

The current TOS are abot to be replaced by a new version in preparation for a formal project launch next week. The changes are relatively minor, and mainly serve to clarigy the intent of the exisiting TOS.

Will the new system (enhanced wiki + goodies) incorporate a higher degree of author identification? This will be significant in the future if we are ever going to be able to know who actually contributed and to what degree. If not, we should think of some writing standards to help support the TOS.

Shared Insights recoupling its investment? Isn't this about communities? Why can't they consider this their contribution?

TOS = Terms of Service (the rights and regulations implied in being a member of the community)

Well yes, I agree that people can make contributions, but you must admit that in order to really get going on all of this, the initial team needed to do significant work to make it possible. People need to be compensated for there valuable efforts, while balancing everything with the "free" activities. Remember that even in the most open environment, resources are limited and are needed in order to make work possible.

Again, it's a balance. Different people can "afford" different contributions.
