I'd encourage some consideration, and I'm not sure where -- so this is a preliminary potential target for this topic ... on social capital ... a key secondary benefit that can develop as a result of community interactions. See "Bowling Alone" for a detailed discussion of this.
A key area of my interest is how online community interactions affect the creation of social capital? ...

Will online interactions lead participants to address new challenges, often beyond the scope of their 'community' interactions?

If so (or if not) ... what is the value (cost) of this as compared to more traditional face-to-face interactions?

Good point. I am not sure whether this is not both a primary issue for the communities we are writing about and a meta issue here for this community.

What do you think?

Absolutely ... This forum is an instance of an online community, so it should have all of the benefits and disadvantages thereof. I would point out that some writers on Social Capital indicate there are negative forms as well as positive (soliciting minors might be one example in the context of online communities) ... so it's not all goodness and light.

Where is the right place to discuss the in-tangible benefits, I picked the "price" section, but that may not be the right target.

I think that the "price" section is a good starting point. Since at it's basic level it is talking about community currencies. This does not have to be only dollars and cents but also an exploration into the different way in which people recieve renumeration (whether social, real-world or otherwise). So go ahead and write your ideas down, we can always move the concepts around at a later date.
