Last night, a group of us from Mzinga did a presentation on community and business social networking for a company. I was very lucky to be speaking with two of our leading thought leaders. So, I let them answer the question first.
The question was based on the age old question of which came first the chicken or the egg. His query was "WHICH COMES FIRST, Technology or Content". All three of us immediately, said - "CONTENT" However, as I sat back ...

I recently finished reading a book by Jodi Picoult entitled, "Plain Truth". http://www.jodipicoult.com/ It was a light summer read however, I believe very well researched. It takes place on a Amish Farm in Lancaster County, PA. It was the first book I have read by this trendy novelist.
As I was reading, the word COMMUNITY jumped off the pages as the members of the Amish family continued to explain the importance of blending into a group and being part of the COMMUNITY was more impo ...

When do you realize an adoption of a new way to communicate? How do you know when it is pervasive in your life? I had such an Epiphany last night at the dinner table. We had planned a family dinner party by connecting with each other on Facebook. Yes, I did have to have one conversation with a family member that is not "LinkedIn" with "Facebook". However, this device and communication tool has allowed me to establish a faster and easier relationship with a new member of our f ...

Kids that are ‘only children’ often pick up strange habits that are more adult like than other children which have siblings to influence them. That can be seen with food choices, reading material, and sports. As an only child, one of the weird habits I picked up from my mother was an interest in talk radio. I would set my clock radio to a huge Boston AM station to listen to Larry Glick nights as I went to bed. During Basketball season, ...

I had the privilege of hearing Eric Chester speak twice last year supporting his research regarding, “Generation Why” and how to work with them. Increasingly, the generation entering the work force is coming up in daily conversations. Call them “Gen Y’ or “Millenials” or just “Those Kids”… They are having an impact on the huge impact on way you need to do business.
A key to success in the f ...

Since the “official” launch of Mzinga, I have had some amazing conversations with individuals that are better understand what the crucial impact of social networking and community already has enterprises.
Let’s be honest. Community swirls around us. We as good corporate citizens are constantly reaching out to our communities to help others and request assistance. We have always done this. I recently was at the ForumOne Online ...

Remembering back to the days, about sixteen years ago when Nike launched the “Just Do It” campaign. I was at New England College in Henniker, NH. The Model UN Group I was a member of was putting together a Model Middle East Summit. It was a lot of work. We found each other screaming “Just Do IT” to each other all the time. It became a mantra for the organization and for many of us in our professional lives as w ...

I have been living and breathing Enterprise community networking for the past years. It has always amazed me how real life examples confront me on a daily basis. My In Laws arrived on Friday afternoon for a family wedding. So as part of the normal discussion, I was talking about what I do and explaining Social Networking and how they “unknowingly” contribute content! My mother-in-law is an avid TV Shopping Channels shopper. I thought ...
